DETAIL
Introduction
I chose the project 'detail' because I saw it as an opportunity to greatly develop my photography skills by improving my understanding of how a camera works. Photography is often known as 'light-based media'; every photograph taken is made up of light hitting our lens. Therefore I thought making my 'detail' project centered around the topic 'lighting' was very fitting.
Below is a brief plan outlining some topics and artists I would like to explore during my project (this has obviously changed and developed throughout).

'DETAIL' PROJECT PLAN

ARTIST RESEARCH:
-
Ryan Bush (an abstract photographer who can provide a variety of outcomes linked to lighting and other elements that make up photographs such as colour).
-
Phil Straus (specification artist showing I can cover a range of topics that fit 'detail').

EXPERIMENTATION: Shadows and Colour
Experimentation shown through lighting methods (ISO, flash, studio lights - commenting on their different effects).
-
Shadows/Patterns
-
Clear cellophane with printed patterns on it covering studio lights. Alternative: boards with patterns cut into them.
-
Projections of patterns from projecter.
-
Colour
-
Coloured cellophane (photographer inspiration: H Lesieur, John French, William Albert Allard, Ian Brumpton).
-
Lens tints, showing simplicity compared to physically adding colour.
-
Silhouettes
-
Simplistic/normal/boring background of studio lights.
-
Colour added to studio light producing pattern.

RECORDING: Lighting Up the Dark
-
Long exposure of traffic.
-
Long exposure creating shapes with sparklers.
-
City night lights/lights at night.

FINALISING AN OUTCOME: Beautiful Light Forms
